Work of the 1940's

Barrell's work exhibited at the Baruch Galleries with the "Indian Space Painters." He had an earlier exhibition titled, "American Artists of the 40's," with a lecture by Ann Gibson. This was given at the Washington Art Association, Washington Depot, Connecticut in 1982.

1968

Barrell founded the "Forest Park School of Art" in Woodhaven, Queens. He received support for himself and art endeavors with the modest income that provided him with three work days as instructor and four at the easel...with nothing to spare.

During the late 50's and 60's, Barrell made a venture in the "Nature Series" of pastels and oils, embracing the still life, landscape, and figure. Perhaps, this era could best be described as exhibiting "Romantic Realism."
